THE ICE CREAM TRUCK OFFICIALLY LAUNCH SUMMER

IN...URBAN FEATURES

shanghai ice cream truck rooftop party

On May 12th Shanghai’s hip and beautiful climbed the spiral stairwell of Atanu with excitement glittering in their eyes. Faux-hawks, half-shaven heads and neon sunglasses bobbed in the air amongst the sea of people. Girls with red lipstick puckered their lips and shook their shoulders to the sound of the beat. The noise-makers, as well as the glowing ice cream cone which stood on the bar, were a reminder of why everyone was really there: for the chance to say, ‘Thank god it’s finally summer.’

The view from the rooftop bar was exhilarating; the Huangpu River below and the lighthouse above, you could almost feel as though you’d been transported out of Shanghai to some sick Mediterranean soiree. The deck was packed with people, and no one seemed in a hurry to leave. DJs Teasy and Robin Blixt spun records and the crowd responded with bouncing feet and fluid arms. The Ice Cream Truck’s first rooftop party of the summer was a smashing hit, and the energy generated was contagious. The vibe was unmistakable: ‘you better get onboard or you might miss out’.

Up and Coming Events

In its third year running, TICT’s Summer Rooftop Series kicks off the start of a long hot summer, keeping the party alive until mid-October. On May 26th DJs Jay. Soul, Tamlan S and Tig will be guiding the crowd through yet another beat-filled party. Jay. Soul, a resident DJ at Shelter, brings the soul to the dance floor with some reggae, Latin and hip-hop. Tamlan S spins some techno and house that makes you close your eyes and move your limbs. Tig’s deep house pumps the body forwards and backwards in search of the beat. TICT’s DJs Trix, Mau Mau and the Uhhh hold down the roof with sets that keep you bouncing as you’re waiting for that next mojito.

Catch the following party on June 23rd with Elvis T and Mia for a night of sweet euphony. The party on July 7th features DJs El’se and Jon. On July 28th Electronic DJs Acid Pony Club and Tzu Sing may just explode your mind; the Acid Pony Club will make you feel like you’re riding a unicorn through the 1980’s. House DJs Milan J and Raz play on August 11th. Don’t miss Funkstar and Heatwolves on August 25th for some eclectic mixing of genre and beat. On September 8th DJs Saul D and Dave K work the decks.
