On 12th January, abfab collaborated with M1NT Shanghai to hold, 'Fabulous Night Out', an event featuring talented cutting-edge designers, such as Sass & Bide, Space, Aqua, Lipsy, Rare and Marta Martino. These designers aim to bring their female customers free-spirited confidence, a modern edge, and individuality.
Shanghai is extremely fashion-conscious, but is still some way behind couture fashion shows in Milan, Paris, and New York in terms of size and stature. Yet, good times are always a given at M1NT, and this was no exception, as aspiring models strode up and down the bar in spectacular evening wear. The show was classy, and a special drink was made especially for the show. Not to mention that M1NT is located on The Bund, on the 24th floor of a building that overlooks PuDong's picturesque view. There's a reason why M1NT is the number one spot to see and be seen at such events.
The street-style inspired looks used many basics, with shirts layered with a cardigan or a leather jacket. Some of the models appeared shorter or wider because of poor tailoring. Yet there was a stand-out outfit with white wide-legged trousers paired with a graphic tee, a black glossy skinny belt, and a fitted brown leather jacket. The event was successful because these designers specialize in edgy, runway and evening dresses, and they do a fabulous job of staying true to this statement.
The cocktail and evening dresses were edgy and modern. The first look was a fitted white cocktail dress styled perfectly with red eyeshadow and black pumps. Then a series of head-to-toe neon yellow, green, purple, and red cocktail dresses are shown. From an over-the-shoulder mini tutu-inspired cut layered over a mini skirt to a simple but vibrant neon green dress. Next, a pair of short and over-the-toe draped galaxy print dresses walked down the runway bringing a different atmosphere compared with the futuristic blocked colors of the previous dresses. These dresses are definite showstoppers for celebrities to gather media attention.
 
The next few in this series brought confidence and an air of defiance, using full-black cocktail dresses with different textures and detailing. This sophisticated punk style included a silk tuxedo-collared dress, a fitted over-the-knee leather dress styled with a lace headdress, a velvet dress with feather-detailing along the shoulder, and a fitted black and metallic mini dress with meticulous side-drapery, all styled with the perfect shade of red lipstick. These outfits are to be in high-demand and are so modern that those who buy the pieces will become immediate trendsetters. The show as a whole was successful as all the designers showed very cohesive collections and distinctive styles.
Aside from affordable but chic clothing, the success of 'Fabulous Night Out' displays why people want to come to Shanghai and why the locals love their city. Even on a Thursday night, the club was packed; the crowd was only a miniscule display of the sophistication and glam of Shanghai, with men dressed in fabulously tailored suits, the women dressed in the latest fashion, and models who stay to join the crowd after the show. M1NT consistently puts on much-needed fashion shows in Shanghai, enabling events such as 'Fabulous Night Out' to catch the public's attention and effect greater coverage on style.
