New Drums n Bass duo 'Death to Giants' play their debut show at Beedees this Friday. One half Ivan of Moon Tyrant, the other Nichols of Rainbow Danger Club, this new project promises to be worth a listen. Ivan tells us more…
S24/7 : What do you have against giants? Do you also hate fat people?
I envy the ability giants have to speak in rhyme effortlessly, as well as their zombie invasion-proof homes in the clouds. As I'm sure you are well aware, zombies can't climb beanstalks. And re: the horizontally over-enabled, yes I do. Unless jolliness is involved. Crabby, self-righteous fatties can get stuffed. Oh wait, they already are.
S24/7 : Can you give us an idea of what your stuff sounds like?
Close your eyes and imagine a chimpanzee face-fucking an elephant seal. Then, add distortion and play it in 7/8.
S24/7 : What are the two of you playing?
A pretty large practical joke on anyone who pays to come see us. Also, I'm on drums, Nichols is on bass, and we both sing and shout things.
S24/7 : Is this material stuff that's been vetoed by the RDC an MT guys?
RDC and MT are actually bands we formed to collect, condense, and showcase untreated effluent from unused DtG jams! No, but in all seriousness, DtG is an outlet for the two of us to jam freely and play various types of music that our respective bands don't really touch. The DtG songs are either taken whole from jams that Nichols and I recorded, or are sections from two or three jams that we've cobbled together. So what you'll be hearing is pretty much the way it came out spontaneously the first time we played it.
S24/7 : Are two-piece bands worth listening to?
Absolutely. Groups like The Black Keys, Death from Above 1979, The Dresden Dolls, and the Hardy Boys (Matt and Jeff, obvi) are all highly talented. However, we aren't. Good things Pairs is fun. See you Friday!
