Playwright Joe Orton had his tongue firmly in (his own) cheek with this merciless lampooning / joyous celebration of unchanging British values such as sexual repression, religious hypocrisy and professional incompetence.
So leave your parochial prejudices at home, and look forward to a night of fun, farce and cross-dressing frolics.
