Lecture: Design as Functional Art - From the applied arts to nowadays
Speaker: Luigi Laurenzi
Language: English with Chinese Translation
Starting from VITRA chairs applied by Paola Pivi in her “Ball” series, Mr. Laurenzi will give a lecture on how art and design marry. Artists and designers both create visual compositions using a shared knowledge base, but their reasons for doing so are some time entirely different. Some designers consider themselves artists, but few artists consider themselves designers. Laurenzi will show today’s design for different reason going toward art which he called “design as functional art”.

“All my designs are exploring the balance in between colors and shapes, through the visual even sensational stimulations and challenges, to let the users feel the relationship they share with the colors and forms of the furnitures, and the way of living it. I can’t agree more with what Mathew Hilton said:’ A perfect Italian design touches not only the vision, but the mind.’”
