Two exhibitions are presented by James Cohan Gallery this summer.
We'll discover a pair of emerging international artists: the first, Jim's Terrible City features twelve color photographs by James H. Bollen.
The pictures are inspired by the famous one time Shanghai expat, British writer J. G. Ballard (1930-2009), and Ballard's semi-autobiographical novel Empire of the Sun.
Next door, Shanghainese artist Li Wenguang charts the boundaries of knowledge in his show, Fallacy.
Comprising highly personal, idiosyncratic renderings, often diagrammatic and architectural in form, Li's finely detailed works on rice paper use a combination of pen, brush, Chinese ink and acrylic paint.
